So as most of you know, Valentine's Day is not my favorite day of the year, and this year was definitely not going to be any different. I actually thought it would be a pretty depressing day considering Adam and I not being together anymore. But I must say, God has a pretty amazing way of giving me what I need most on days like this...a really good laugh. Not only was it "Singles Awareness Day" but it was also Wednesday, the most dreaded day of the school week. The day I drive to San Marcos at 9:30 a.m. and cannot return until about 9 p.m. Well, here's how my day went.
I go to Schenkerian Analysis, the hardest class on the face of the earth and this guy won't stop talking to the prof about stuff in the music...none of us know what he's talking about and I'm getting frustrated because I have no clue what's going on. In my effort to vent my frustration, I raise my hand and tell the professor I have no clue what's happening, then I proceed to tell her what I had in my mind and she gets this great "Aha" look on her face and tells me I'm right! WHAT? This arrogant guy who likes to hear himself talk is the one who has no idea what's going on? I was the smartest one in class! By mistake, mind you, but yet still the smartest one in class...for about 30 seconds and then I was completely lost again, but still feeling good about myself.
Then after class, I settle in the library to work on some stuff when one of the undergraduates in my analysis class comes and sits across from me. He was nice but very awkward. He strikes me as the kind of guy that doesn't get sarcasm all that well (and if you know me at all, you know I live for sarcasm). It's obvious by the headphones in my ears that I'm not inviting any conversations yet he still decides to talk to me. It went a little something like this:
Undergrad: Did you see the Valentine's Day card I made as a joke in class this morning?
April: No, I didn't. What did it say?
Undergrad: It said "I SchenCARE about you" (note to reader the name of our class is Schenkerian Analysis)
April: (laugh) Oh that's funny.
Undergrad: Get it, it's a play on words
At the point I have to tell all the people this very important fact...the joke's not funny when you explain it to the person who very obviously gets it! HA! He made me chuckle since he thought I might not understand the joke. Anyways, after he left, I had a conversation with a classmate about him liking me and how I should go for it. After I reminded her that I'm old enough to practically be his mom, I went on with my day.
Then night class happened. This class always gives me a good laugh because I'm usually tired and to the point of giddiness by the time I get to 5 p.m. Dr. Schuler is also just a hoot and a half. He has this awesome German accent that makes everything he says more interesting. Well, tonight, he's talking and this horrible smell starts to fill the room. It smelled like burnt rubber! The smell gets so bad that he decides to take our break early. It turns out there's an electical problem in the building and there is some insulation burning. So the fire department has to come and check out the situation and we have to evacuate the building. It's only about 6 p.m. by this time and we still have 2 hours of class left. Does he dismiss class? NO...he has us reconvene at "Grins" a local restaurant up the hill...on valentine's day. We are sitting in a room discussing how to properly review a cd or book, while there are couple's around us celebrating their love for each other. Ha! It was a good night...I laughed a lot!
I'm sure my words do not accurately depict the situation but hopefully you got the idea of how humorous my day turned out to be...I hope your Valentine's Day was equally filled with fun!
