Ph.D. Celebration #6

I had a lot to celebrate at the end of this week. As some of you may know, I tore my ACL at the end of August and had surgery at the end of September. This past week was my first week back on campus and working. Everyday I was SO tired when I got home. I can't believe I survived the week in this big ol' brace!
To celebrate, Austin brought me a great big breakfast from Bobo's a local diner with pancakes bigger than your head, and a massage. Walking lopsided for so long really mixes up the rest of one's body!

All in all, it was a good but exhausting week! I even managed to turn in my committee forms for me dissertation! Won't be long now....

Ph.D. Celebration #2

It was slightly more difficult to celebrate the completion of this week because it ended with my being VERY behind in my school work (already!). I injured my knee and am looking to have to get surgery in the not-so-distant future. This week was filled with doctor appointments, lots of slow moving, ice, and frustration. And not much school work. But a week is a week, right? And I survived...barely. So to celebrate, Austin and I headed up to Mt. Lemmon and enjoyed the 72 degree weather and temporarily forgot we lived in the desert, that is until we drove back down to the 102 degree Tucson temp! For even just a few hours, it was the perfect getaway!

And I Thought My Thesis was Rough...

So I worked on my thesis for almost a year before it was completed and approved. It totaled 108 pages and I've got the pretty hard-backed book to prove it. Well...I naively thought to myself, "That wasn't bad. If I can write a thesis I can surely get my Ph.D. without too much more trouble..."
This statement has come back to get me because my first semester into my Ph.D. studies I am required to write a 120 page book by the end of the semester! My thesis was not even that long! Well here it is Novemeber and I'm on page 88. It's coming...slowly but surely it's coming. What was I thinking...this is so much more work than the Masters! All I have to say is this better all be worth it! Ha!

The First Day...

I just wanted to let you know I survived my first day of teaching college! And I must say, I think I did so with flying colors! I really enjoyed teaching the college kids! I've been riding the bus to school and today as I was getting off the bus, I heard someone calling "teacher, teacher!" It took me a minute to register that this individual was talking to me...it was one of my students! Once I realized she was talking to me, I looked at her and she said "teacher teacher! See you next time in class!" I thought it was cute. I think it's going to be a good semester...for teaching anyways, I am not excited about my Contemporary Music Analysis class. But I do get to take a class called "Writing a Book." Apparently I am going to write a book...wait...didn't I already do that? It was called my THESIS!!! Ha! Hope you all have a great week!
